Printed The Beneath the Surface Card Deck

BENEATH THE SURFACE
CARD DECK

Created by: Jackie Flynn

The Beneath the Surface Card Deck was created as a reflective tool for self-awareness, emotional exploration, and meaningful conversation. It invites people to slow down, become present, and notice what begins to emerge through the symbolism and metaphor of the natural world.

Rather than offering answers or fixed interpretations, each image creates space for curiosity, reflection, and personal meaning.

When Inner Experience Is Hard to Put Into Words

Sometimes an image can help us notice what words cannot yet reach.

The Beneath the Surface Card Deck offers open-ended nature images that can become mirrors for emotions, challenges, strengths, hopes, memories, and personal stories. Storms, rivers, forests, mountains, deserts, oceans, caves, roots, doors, bridges, fire, and quiet places in nature can all invite reflection without requiring one clear answer.

This deck supports people to:

• slow down and become present

• notice body sensations, emotions, memories, and thoughts

• explore personal meaning through nature imagery

• reflect on resilience, uncertainty, transformation, loss, possibility, and healing

• begin meaningful conversations with curiosity and compassion

• trust what stands out in an image

• discover what the image may be reflecting back

Sometimes one image is enough to begin the story beneath the surface.

WHAT’S INSIDE:

This deck includes open-ended nature-based image cards designed for reflection, conversation, and personal insight.

The images include symbolic scenes such as fire, smoke, forest paths, storms, tornadoes, lightning, fog, mountains, cliffs, caves, deserts, rivers, oceans, waves, deep water, trees, roots, cracked earth, stones, crossroads, doors, bridges, walls, a lit window, a shell, and an anchor.

There is no single meaning for any card. A storm might hold fear, intensity, release, power, or change. A doorway might hold possibility, uncertainty, safety, hesitation, or transition. What matters most is what the image brings forward for the person using it.

HOW TO USE IT

Choose a card that draws your attention.
Spend a moment with the image.

Notice what draws your eye.
Notice what happens in your body as you look at it.

You might gently ask:

• What feelings, memories, images, or associations begin to emerge?

• If this image were telling a story, what story would it tell?

• What, if anything, feels familiar?

There is no right or wrong interpretation.
Trust your own experience and stay curious.

This is a reflection tool, not therapy.
Reach out for support if needed.
