THE WABI-SABI
CARD DECK
Created by: Jackie Flynn
The Wabi-Sabi Card Deck is a nervous system informed reflection tool created for moments when the work is about making peace with what has cracked, weathered, worn down, or changed, while noticing what remains whole.
Inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, the deck invites us to find beauty in imperfection, impermanence, and the natural cycles of growth and decay. Through 53 photographic cards, ordinary objects and moments touched by time become gentle invitations for reflection, meaning, and self-compassion.
When Life Leaves a Mark
Not everything that has been through something needs to be restored to how it was before.
A bowl repaired with gold.
A tree still standing after the storm.
A worn teddy bear, loved thin.
A flower growing through concrete.
The Wabi-Sabi Card Deck creates space to notice what has changed, what has softened, what has endured, and what may still be growing.
This deck supports exploration of:
resilience and inner resources
self-compassion and worth
change, loss, and transition
what has softened or strengthened over time
the marks our experiences leave behind
growth that emerges from difficult seasons
what remains steady, meaningful, or whole
hope, perspective, and possibility
Nothing here needs to be perfect to be worthy. Sometimes the places that broke become the places that hold the most light.
WHAT’S INSIDE:
The deck includes 53 photo cards, each with a full photograph on the front and a title with one reflection question on the back.
Reflections throughout the deck include:
Gentle Repair — What part of your story became stronger after it broke?
Softening Edges — What has time softened in you?
Still Standing — What helps you stay rooted?
Persistence — Where do you keep growing?
Worthy Still — What remains whole within you?
New Life — What emerged from an ending?
Resilience — What has endured?
Light Within — What still shines?
Turning Toward Light — What gives you hope?
Rooted Through Change — What helps you find your footing when life shifts? Wabi-Sabi Wisdom Card Deck Wabi-Sabi Wisdom Card Deck Wabi-Sabi Wisdom Card Deck Wabi-Sabi Wisdom Card Deck
Some images may feel comforting. Others may bring grief, resistance, relief, recognition, or nothing at all.
Whatever you notice is welcome.
HOW TO USE IT
Look through the cards slowly.
Notice the beauty in what is imperfect, weathered, or changed by time.
Choose an image that draws your attention.
Read its title and reflection question, then take a moment to notice what comes to mind.
You might gently explore:
What stands out to you?
What feels familiar?
What has changed over time?
What feels steady or rooted in you?
What still carries a mark?
What has survived, softened, or grown?
What might be asking for acceptance rather than fixing?
