PARTS OF ME
CARD DECK
Created by: Jackie Flynn
The Parts of Me Card Deck is a gentle, parts-informed reflection tool created to help children, teens, and adults explore the many parts of themselves that protect, feel, remember, struggle, connect, and help them move through the world.
Through warm, symbolic images, the deck offers a visual way to notice which parts feel present, what they may be trying to communicate or protect, and what they might need. The invitation is not to judge or push any part away, but to meet what shows up with curiosity, compassion, and care.
When Different Parts of You Need to Be Seen
Sometimes one part wants to move forward while another wants to stay safe.
One part may feel strong and capable while another feels younger, vulnerable, uncertain, or overwhelmed. A protective part may step forward quickly, while another part quietly holds a need, feeling, memory, or hope that has not yet found words.
The Parts of Me Card Deck creates space to slow down and notice these inner experiences without asking them to compete, disappear, or be resolved before they are ready.
This deck supports people to:
notice which parts feel present in the moment
explore emotions, needs, memories, and protective responses
become curious about what a part may be trying to communicate
recognize what a protective part may be trying to prevent or guard against
make room for younger or more vulnerable parts
explore inner conflict without needing to choose one side
notice parts connected with strength, support, and connection
build a more compassionate relationship with the inner world
allow each part to feel seen, heard, and welcomed
Sometimes one image is enough to help a part step forward and say, “This is what I have been trying to show you.”
WHAT’S INSIDE:
The deck includes warm, symbolic image cards representing experiences such as:
protection
vulnerability
younger parts
inner conflict
emotional needs
protective responses
strength
support
memory
connection
Each image offers a gentle starting point rather than a fixed meaning. A card may represent a protective part to one person, a younger part to another, or something entirely different depending on what is happening inside.
The cards can help children, teens, and adults notice what feels present and begin exploring the different roles, needs, feelings, and intentions within their internal experience.
There is no single “correct” interpretation. What matters is what the image brings forward for the person using it.
HOW TO USE IT
Look through the cards slowly.
Choose an image that feels connected to a part of you that is present right now.
You might gently ask:
What do I notice about this part?
What feelings or body sensations come with it?
What is this part trying to communicate?
Is it trying to protect me from something?
What is it afraid might happen if it stopped doing its job?
What does this part need me to understand?
Does this part feel younger, older, strong, tired, worried, or alone?
Is another part reacting to this one?
What might help this part feel seen, heard, or supported?
You may choose one card or notice several parts that seem present together. Cards can be placed beside one another to explore connection, disagreement, distance, protection, or support between parts.
There is no pressure to understand everything at once. A card can be set aside when it does not feel helpful, and a part does not have to share more than it is ready to share.
Simply notice what feels present.
Stay curious about the parts that show up.
Allow each part to be seen, heard, and welcomed.
The deck may be used during:
therapy
EMDR
play therapy
parts work
family work
mindfulness
emotional exploration
conversations about needs and protective responses
work with inner conflict
self-compassion practices
These uses reflect the settings and areas of exploration identified in the official deck description.
This is a reflection tool, not therapy or a substitute for professional care. Reach out for support when needed.
If you are looking for a gentle visual tool that helps children, teens, and adults notice, understand, and compassionately welcome the parts that protect, remember, struggle, feel, and connect…
